33 participantes serão alocados em 3 grupos, com 11 pacientes em cada grupo, seguindo o método de randomização de permuta em bloco (bloco=3; frequência de alocamento 1:1:1). Esses pacientes serão submetidos à monoterapia tópica com combinação fixa de análogos de prostaglandinas e maleato de timolol 0,5% ( uma gota ao dia) durante 3 meses, de acordo com a seguinte distribuição: Grupo 1 - Latanoprosta +Timolol (LT); Grupo 2 - Bimatoprosta + Timolol (BT); Grupo 3 - Travoprosta + Timolol (TT)] independentemente de idade, sexo ou residência. Todos os pacientes serão submetidos a entrevista clínica, exame oftalmológico de rotina, biomicroscopia em lâmpada de fenda, tonometria de aplanação com Goldmann e avaliação da superfície ocular antes e após tratamento de 3 meses. Avaliação da superfície ocular incluirá exame biomicroscópico das pálpebras, conjuntiva, córnea e filme lacrimal. O teste de Schirmer II será realizado, bem como teste de lissamina verde e tempo de rotura do filme lacrimal, antes da coleta de amostras para citologia de impressão. O questionário Índice de Doença Ocular de Superfície(OSDI) será aplicado. Os pacientes serão examinados por 2 centros ( Instituto Graefe de Oftalmologia e Hospital de Base de Brasília) seguindo instruções fornecidas pelo departamento de córnea e doenças externas da UNIFESP.

33 Patients will be allocated in 3 groups includind 11 patients in each, following permuted- block randomization method (Block size=3; allocation rate 1:1:1). These patients will be treated with fixed combination of prostaglandin/timolol maleate monotherapy ( one daily drop) for 3 months, distributed as follows:Group 1- Latanoprost +Timolol (LT);Group 2- Bimatoprost + Timolol (BT) and Group 3-Travoprost + Timolol (TT), independently of age, sex or residence.
Clinical data collected will include patients’ demographic data (age and sex). All patients will be underwent routine ophthalmological examination, slit lamp biomicroscopy, Goldmann applanation tonometry and ocular surface evaluation before and after three months of treatment. Ocular surface evaluation will include biomicroscopic examination focusing on the lids, conjunctiva, cornea and tear film. The Schirmer II test will be performed, lissamine green vital staining scores will be recorded and tear film break-up time (TBUT) will be measured before impression cytology samples will be taken. The OSDI questionnaire will be also applied.
Patients were examined by two centers (Graefe Institute of Ophthalmology and Brasilia Base Hospital) following instructions provided by the Cornea and External Disease Department, UNIFESP. -

Redução da pressão intra-ocular avaliada através de tonometria com tonômetro de Goldman,sempre em mesmo horário ( 8 hs da manhã), comparando-se as médias pressóricas pré e pós tratamento.

Alterações da Superfície Ocular induzidas pelas medicações usadas avaliadas através de tempo de rotura do filme lacrimal ( "breakup time" - BUT: valor normal acima de 15 segundos),teste de Schirmmer ( normal acima de 15 mm), coloração vital de lissamina verde ( graduadas de 0 a 9) e mudança dos valores do escores entre a avaliação inicial e a avaliação final do questionário OSDI . Avaliação da arquitetura celular será feita pela coleta de citologia de impressão e avaliação de parâmetros inflamatórios ( receptor da superfície celular codificada pelo antígeno leucocitário humano -HLA-DR e Interleucina 6 -IL-6) através de imunohistoquímica.

Ocular Surface Changes induced by medications used evaluated by break-up time ( TBUT: normal values over 15 seconds), Schirmmer test (normal above 15mm),Green Lissamine vital stainig ( graduated from zero to 9)and changes of score values of OSDI form between inicial and final evaluation.
Celular architecture will be evaluated using impression cytology technique and inflammatory parameters will be detected by immunohistochemistry ( HLA-DR and IL-6).
