FINEP supports National Network of Clinical Research with £ 35 million

Partnership between the Ministries of Science and Technology and of Health, the project of the National Clinical Research has received more than $ 35 million for infrastructure, 19 teaching hospitals in Brazil, where they are developed and tested new medicines and treatments for cancer , hypertension and heart disease.

FINEP launched a public call in 2005, and currently most of the units are ready or getting ready to start their activities. The National Network of Clinical Research (RNPC) is composed of 35 health units in total, between university hospitals and public research centers.

Another purpose is to attract investment RNPC of the private pharmaceutical industry, reversing profits for research projects and independent initiatives. This is possible because any drug, to be marketed in the country, should be subjected to clinical trials and approval from an institution accredited by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). Therefore, clinical trials with drugs already developed and even funding research aimed at discovery of new drugs have, in most cases, to private laboratories.

Among the universities is contemplated Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Ufrgs). She was received about $ 2.5 million in resources, applied in the construction of a building that today houses the clinical research unit of the university. In the new building, which has been running since August last year, working 39 research teams, about 60 people, mostly students graduate. There is ongoing work within all major areas of medicine, with the cardiology, genetics and psychiatry the most studied.

The National Cancer Institute, National Cancer Institute, also received funds. Were about $ 7 million for renovation of core clinical research, where it was possible to create a training base of professionals specializing in oncology clinical research.
